“The Last Wish” Book Cover Design

“The Last Wish” is the first of eight books in “The Witcher” series, which includes 3 games and a Netflix special. The first two books of the series are actually short stories, with The Last Wish being the title of one of the short stories in the book. It involves Geralt, the protagonist, needing to help a friend who got injured by a djinn.

The title of the book and the short story is where I drew the inspiration for the cover design. I wanted it to feel like a djinn’s jar had just been opened and you can see the face of the creature in the fog. I was able to download the font used across the series, and chose the color red as a striking and attention grabbing means. As this was one of my earliest projects while starting school, I did learn of a few things that I would change in my design. I would look at font changes so it is not all the same on the cover, to give it more of an interesting design, as well as getting a bit more practice in InDesign to really clean it up.
